PARIS – The day after…

The photographs presented in the exhibition were taken the day after the series of terrorist attacks that took place in Paris on Friday evening, November 13, 2015. As a result, 137 innocent people are killed at the hands of the attackers and more than 300 are injured. As a result of the attacks, a state of emergency is declared across the country, and in the French capital, for the first time since 1944, a curfew is also declared. An additional 1,500 soldiers are deployed to guard security in Paris. French President François Hollande declares three days of national mourning.
The day after the attacks, crowds of grief-stricken and mourning Parisians spontaneously take to the streets and gather near the sites of the attacks and in the city’s largest squares, including the Place de la Republique, the traditional point on the map of Parisian demonstrations. Despite the ban on assemblies that has been imposed, people gather at these places, lay flowers and light candles to show solidarity with the victims of the attacks and express opposition to terrorism. Shock, fear and outrage are mingled with pain, suffering and disbelief.
