As with the technique using gum, the pigment method is based on using the photosensitivity of gelatine and potassium chromate. To make prints, two types of paper must be prepared – the first, which is thin and has a smooth surface, is covered with a gelatine solution with added pigment and sensitised by immersion in a dichromate solution, while the second, which has a rough texture, is prepared using a gelatine solution and water. The above technique can result in both realistic full-colour photographic prints and a variety of colour compositions.
